Hydrostatic Testing

Hydrostatic testing, also known as leak detection, involves filling a vessel or pipe system with a liquid or a gas. Water may be dyed to aid in visual leak detection and pressurization of the vessel to the specified test pressure. Pressure tightness can be tested by shutting off the supply valve and observing whether there is a pressure loss. The location of a leak can be visually identified more easily if the water contains a colorant.

SealTech's hydrostatic testing team provides a turnkey service, performing every single function from beginning to end. With one phone call, we will dispatch highly trained hydrostatic testing teams for make ready and leak repair. We have the capability to test any size pipeline, from the smallest fabrication to cross-country pipeline and can performed thousands of tests on pipelines ranging from 1.5" to 48" pipe.

Services include:

  • Make ready - Mechanical preparation and remedial work for testing operations.
  • Line fill, test and dewater - Late model, specially designed equipment allows pump performance to be matched to any project in the country.
  • Leak and failure repair - High-tech, advanced leak detection methods and replacement and/or repair of defects identified during testing activities.
  • Tie-ins and re-commissioning – Reestablishing pipeline operations following testing activities.

Hydrostatic testing is the most common method employed for testing pipes and pressure vessels. Using this test helps maintain safety standards and durability of a vessel over time. Hydrostatic tests are conducted under the constraints of either the industry's standards, customer's specifications, or may be required by law. Let SealTech's expertise save you time and money.
